“Pulse” An Exposé Of Progressive Art Movements In
Oklahoma City

Clint Stone - Jason Pawley - Sean Vali - Rick Sinnett

Tanner Frady - Cassie Stover - Josh Heilaman

There are many young art movements gaining ground in the Oklahoma City metroplex, but none as quickly as street art; the biggest counter-cultural movement since punk. It should be noted that typically the term street art, or the more specific post-graffiti, is used to distinguish contemporary public-space artwork from territorial graffiti, vandalism, and corporate art. Often rooted in aerosol paint cans, building facades and back alleys, street art steps beyond that into many forms of public and non-public expression known as urban art and over recent years movements rooted in the street such as psychedelic, graffiti, stencil graffiti, sticker art, wheatpasting, woodblocking and yarn bombing have gained international attention from the fine art community. "Street" artists do not aspire to change the definition of an artwork, but rather to question the existing environment with its own language. They attempt to have their work communicate with everyday people about socially relevant themes in ways that are informed by esthetic values without being imprisoned by them. The motivation and objectives of "Street" artists are as varied as the artists themselves. This April Paseo Originals Art Gallery is set to shine light on these progressive underground art movements afoot in Oklahoma City. The gallery will feature seven area artists including Tanner Frady, Jason Pawley, Cassie Stover, Sean Vali, Rick Sinnett, Josh Heilaman and Clint Stone for the exhibit "Pulse". The exhibit is set to open on Friday, April 5th from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and will run through the 28th of April. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
