Mary Bechtol is an accomplished artist and prolific painter who works from her home studio on a farm in Canyon, Texas producing large powerful expressions of nature. Bechtol says of her work, "I grew up on the Southern Plains, moving frequently. There isn't much to look at on the Plains, but with each family move I began to notice subtle differences in the landscape. I saw varying shades, hues, and tones, and how the colors changed with the differing light. Most of my landscapes begin en plein air. I give the viewer barely enough information to recognize a location, the greater focus being on the push and pull of color which gives each piece its depth. Since we were always moving, I saw the landscape in motion. Thus I begin each canvas with a sketch usually done in black with large fluid motions to depict how the landscape looked from the back seat of the car as it tumbled past me. These fluid lines depict that movement, and I leave some of these lines visible in the finished painting because they evoke the excitement and adventure I felt as a child."

On display in Jane Turnbull's studio is a license plate from Ontario, Canada. Although she was born and raised in Oklahoma City, her marriage at a young age took her to Canada as a landed immigrant. In 1996, Jane left the fast paced Toronto and gladly returned to her native Oklahoma. After returning to her red dirt home, Jane honed her hand-building skills in Oklahoma City receiving instruction from a variety of well respected artists, and with their one-on-one mentoring, Jane's style and enthusiasm for art accelerated. When asked about her work, Turnbull says, "A glimpse into my passion is to see me working in the garden or in my studio. In both places, I have my hands in the Earth. My designs are original. Each piece is built using flat slabs of clay. I visualize the finished 3-D art and sketch the design. Next is determining the dimensions for the structure. I then cut out patterns in the clay slab and hand-build the form by connecting all the parts. My ceramic shapes are made with numerous pieces of clay."
